Stripping the
frame
So the paint
stripper didn’t work thanks to the nanny state situation. I looked into getting
some DCM (Dichloromethane) the main active ingredient of paint stripper but
that costs more than the stripper stuff so I thought better of it and dragged
out the pressure washer and blasting media and set out cleaning the frame. I
used Hammerite rust remover gel, which is stupidly expensive but does a great
job. It’s a green gel that kinda sticks to vertical surfaces but you have to
use a lot of the stuff. It doesn’t burn yours hand to a crisp which has got to
be a plus but does turn them green if not washed off in quick time.
Around the rear
suspension mounts and down in the bowls of the frame where the centre stand
lives were the rustiest parts of the frame, but the steel wasn’t as bad as it
first looked, which was nice.
After pissing around with the pressure washer and the green ooze from the turtles movie I set about the frame with the angle grinder and an assortment of wire wheels. I placed the frame on a collapsed cardboard box to make my life easier.

The sun
decided to quit on me so that was it for the day.
